The Sugar House at the Edge of Miller's Woods

Everyone who hikes Miller's Woods has heard some version of the story: a cottage that isn't always there, waiting somewhere off the marked trail. Most people treat it as an old rumor, something that happened to a friend of a friend years back. Then the smell of fresh sugar drifts out from between the trees — real, and close, and easy to follow. Easy enough that it's hard to just keep walking. And whether it's there again the next time someone goes looking is never something anyone can count on either way.
